Whether you’re a new family of three or you have multiple little monsters desperate to collect candy, here are some ideas that are big on creativity, short on time spent, and can save you some $$ in the long run!

Homemade

For this section, let’s pretend you’re home two days before Halloween and discover you’ve run out of time. No Wal-Mart Costumes for you (it’s probably already changed to Christmas Decor anyway), here’s what you can use at home in a bind!

Family of Zombies

Start with some clothes you have at home, cut with scissors or razors and add some “rough” elements with coffee grounds and ketchup. This may seem old school, but who doesn’t appreciate a good homemade zombie outfit? Does your husband have a shirt you hate? EVEN BETTER. Make that his zombie wardrobe!

Here are some supplies, and accessories if you have Prime and Time!

Old People

I know you’ve seen it. The toddlers who are wearing the glasses. The gray hair with curlers in it. The knee high (sometimes mismatched) socks and penny loafers. Bring out those suspenders and the pants that don’t quite fit your kids anymore! Use baby powder or flour to make their hair gray and pop out the lenses of those cheap sunglasses! Your wallet will thank you, and you’ll want to take a picture of everyone.

For a powder alternative you can use spray!

Each Other

Especially in a home where there are different siblings and different genders, change up the assignment and let your kids be someone else in the house! Younger sisters can be an older brother (or sister), wearing their clothes and adapting their mannerisms. This has the potential to create some hysterical video footage, because no one can mock quite like a younger sibling.

For the more adventurous, Amazon has several options for 3 or more. My personal favorite is the S’more! If you’re wanting something more substantial, then we like to refer to Disney Classics whenever possible.

Cruella and dogs

For a bit of a twist, have your daughter be Cruella! Not only are the kids’ costumes cheaper, it allows for parents to branch out and be something more simplistic if they want, like a dog catcher, or even Jasper and Horace! Bonus parenting points, though, if you choose to be a Dalmatian.

Beekeeper, Queen Bee, and their Hive

For something a little spunkier (read: a little more revealing) mom could be Queen Bee because who else could do that job? Have dad be the Beekeeper and the little ones be your Hive. If your little boy or tween doesn’t want the be a part of the hive, have them be a victim of some serious bee stings or the hive (this one is great for teens).

Super Heroes

Is your family a fan of superheroes? This Halloween, unleash your powers and assemble your very own superhero squad. From classic favorites like Batman and Superman to the latest heroes from Marvel and DC Comics, there are countless options to choose from. Whether you have a tiny tot or a teenager, there’s a superhero costume that will make them feel like they can save the world!

For the little ones, consider adorable costumes like Superbaby or Batgirl. Teens can rock the scene as Thor or Wonder Woman. The best part? You can even coordinate your costumes with matching accessories like capes and masks. So, suit up and get ready to fight crime, one Halloween treat at a time!

Movie Director and Cast

Have a favorite movie? Why not dress up like that character? This costume idea is great especially for well-known movies that have characters who are easy to recognize in the crowd of costumes. Running low on money or time? We suggest being a director of a film, not worrying about getting together a whole costume if you don’t want to. Folks will know you’re a director with this action sign!

These final costumes will require more planning, and are therefore more expensive. But boy, do they deliver the Halloween spirit!

Nightmare before Christmas

This is a Halloween movie, right? Jack and Sally are the epitome of dark love, and these cute family costumes bring their little monsters into the picture! Even better, if you like the scarier side of costumes, Oogie Boogie gets right to that point. With the quality of a Disney brand, these costumes give some options for everyone in your family, and can be used year after year.
